STAY POSITIVE SERIES #1 – NEW NORMAL

Hello my professional friends. Welcome to my second article. We believe we all have heard and read the news that effective today our government has officially implemented ’Pembatasan Sosial Berskala Besar (PSBB)’. For many of us who have been practicing WFH for the last 3-4 weeks this policy might not affect us so much anymore. However, I believe there will be more offices will implement WFH policy starting today. Therefore, I want to share my own personal and simple tips and tricks to make our new-normal routines exciting and productive.

All staff in my company has been practicing WFH since March 16th. That said this is the fourth week of WFH for me. I am an extroverted person who enjoy going out, meeting people, seeing people do their activities. I also a person who has to go office in the morning to do work preparation, write my daily task on my notebook or smartphone. This WFH policy is a nightmare for me for the first week because my normal and effective working setup has to change. I have to strategize to trick my mind and make this WFH works. Without further ado, here are what I have been doing in simple steps:

  1. ACCEPTING THE NEW NORMAL

Easier said than done but this is the first step you have to do. Accept that this condition is out of our control and say to yourself to at least try this. The good reason: You do this together with other people for the sake of preventing the virus spread.

  1. STICKING TO YOUR DAILY SCHEDULE

I know since this we are on WFH mode we do not have to get up early and brush our teeth right away. Try doing your daily routines like you are working as usual. For example: get up at 7am, shower at 7.15am, have breakfast at 8am, open your email and write your daily to-do list at 8.30am. This is how you trick your mind and body to get into working mode even you are at home.

  1. USING YOUR FAVORITE THINGS

Bring home all your favourite stuffs you usually use at office: coffee mug, notebook, any decorations you have on your office desk. Set a working desk at home and decorate it the way you usually do at the office. You are basically creating the same working ambience at home. Another tip for extra-mile people: you can also copy your working appearance as well – styling your hair, putting on make up, wearing smart casual outfit.

  1. BEING GRATEFUL OF THESE THINGS (may vary for each of us):
  • Save transportation money
  • Save commuting time.
  • Play with your kids while working
  • Have lunch with your mom and dad.
  • Play PS4 or Nintendo Switch during your zoom meeting breaks.

I do hope what I have been doing can help boost your WFH productivity. Let us do our communal part together with others. Let us enjoy simple things we used to take for granted. When things are back to normal, we may not be able to do those things anymore. Cherish every moment and stay positive!
